Calling all Choc Chicks!

by Polly N on January 20, 2011

As you may have deduced from the number of chocolate recipes on this site, I am a chocolate fan. Although these days it’s unlikely you’ll find me munching on that processed sugar-filled stuff. I prefer the real mccoy and here’s why if you don’t already know.

Raw cacao powder is much healthier than the roasted variety that your average chocolate bar contains. Cacao comes from the cacao bean which when made sustainably is pressed, extracting the “fat” from the bean which is called cacao butter, leaving the cacao nibs or powder behind.

It’s all well and good knowing this but “WHERE can I buy it?” is what I often get asked. I hear you! I know some of these ingredients are hard to come by as unfortunately they aren’t stocked in your local supermarket. One day – hopefully.

There are quite a few companies online that sell these products but if you’re new to raw chocolate and want to experiment without having to buy loads of it then I would recommend you take a look at this fab site I found called Choc Chick.

They do starter kits with all you need to make your own raw choccies and they are very reasonably priced. Once you’ve experimented with one of the starter kits, you’ll be hooked and I guarantee you’ll want to go back for more!

They also make a brilliant gift for someone that loves chocolate – and who doesn’t love chocolate?! I know I do!

This is how I started making raw chocolate. I ordered a Choc Chick starter kit and was on my way. I still have some cocoa powder leftover. It’s a really good base to start from.
By the way will you be popping along to the Raw food party happening on the Friday 28th January at Vantra in London (Tottenham Court Road) with expert Philip McCluskey. It’s from 6.30pm-1am. For more information check out:

P.S-I’m back on the raw diet. Yesterday breakfast and lunch was raw and dinner was cooked, today it has been all raw and am making it all raw tomorrow again. My body seems to be more in tune with raw. I don’t mind cooked once in a while, only vegan though as am not eating dairy. I have been making my own almond milk instead. :)
Hope you are well, and Happy New Year!
