Cool as a cucumber

by Polly N on June 25, 2011

It’s set to be a stonking hot day tomorrow so to help you cool down, here’s a recipe that will hydrate, refresh and cleanse. And it may just help to make your skin glow – double bonus! Yep, that’s all thanks to silica known as the beauty mineral which cucumber is packed with!

If you’ve read my blog before you know I am big fan of juicing, simply because it is such an easy way to flood the body with oxygen, vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients which are essential for health. I am particularly fond of green juice (as opposed to straight fruit juice) as green is where all the goodness is. Chlorophyll is extremely cleansing, detoxifying and alkalising – something we definitely need in our diet on daily basis for optimum health. For more info on why alkalising the body is so important, check this out.

Mint is particularly great for aiding digestion and can also help relieve headaches and nausea. When I was having chemo, I often drank mint tea as I was as sick as a dog the whole time and spent a lot of time worshipping the porcelain God . Personally I did find it helped. There is also some research to show that mint may help prevent cancer – always a bonus.

If you are new to juicing, then I would seriously recommend you get started asap. It’s the fastest and easiest way to get all those fruits and veggies into your body without having to chow down on a tonne of them everyday. Your body will thank you – you’ll have more energy, feel lighter and brighter and be stacking the health odds in your favour which let’s face it, is always a bonus. I mean, who doesn’t want to be healthy?!

Mint Cooler

  • 1 medium cucumber
  • 1 apple
  • 1 small handful mint
  • 1 lime, peeled

Stick it all through a juicer and pour over ice.

Stay cool. xx
