Hoorah! My book “The Cancer Journey” finally had its official launch last week and even before the party, the book was sold out on Amazon! I guess it’s a good problem to have as people are keen to get their hands on the nuggets of useful info that my co-authors and I wish we had known when we had cancer. I can’t believe it’s 6 years since my very first diagnosis of cervical cancer. My chemo and radio days seem like a distant nightmare that happened to a very ill-looking and frail shadow of a person called Polly! I feel fortunate that second time round, I have managed to find the faith in my body’s ability to heal itself.
Getting a cancer diagnosis is scary stuff and I don’t blame most people for going down that route because at the time, it seems like the logical thing to do. And whatever choice you make, it is YOURS to make. But knowing what you can do to help yourself heal, lessen the side-effects and deal with mental, emotional and physical shit storm that accompanies a diagnosis is always handy. Which is why I wrote “The Cancer Journey – Positive Steps to Help Yourself Heal”.
This is NOT a book about treating cancer alternatively, nor does it say anything negative about conventional treatment or doctors. (I think most doctors do an amazing job and would be EVEN more amazing if they were MORE open to treating the person rather than the disease but hey, slowly but surely people like Dr Mark Hyman & Dr Bruce Lipton are paving the green highway and educating others about holistic living and functional medicine).
This book is the book I wish I had had when I had surgery, radio and chemo. I wish I had known about eating an anti-inflammatory plant-based diet, about the chemicals in my skincare, about the cancer-causing substances on my foods and how some foods I was told to eat by my doctor could be contributing to the GROWTH of cancer! I wish that I could have bought this book for my friends and family and said “Hey – read the chapter on what friends and family can do to help coz I just don’t have the energy to explain how I feel and that somedays I’m going to feel pissed off and want to bite your head off and some days I’m going to want to cry on your shoulder. Please do me a favour and read this.”
After 12 months of writing, 2 months of editing, indexing and formatting, the book is here and the feedback so far has been amazing! Thanks to an appearance on The Wright Stuff on Channel 5 last week, this site received over 1200 hits and we sold hundreds of copies of the book!
My friend, the gorgeous Dr David Hamilton said, “I totally love your book The Cancer Journey- I think it will help loads of people”
The Telegraph said ” The first part contains some really useful advice. Sometimes the most commonsense solution is the last one to come to mind at a stressful time and, for those waiting for test results, embarking on the cancer “journey” or supporting a friend or relative, this is an excellent book to read. The advice ranges across many aspects of cancer, all of which are explained simply and, often, with humour.”
