I have a confession to make; I am lazy when it comes to exercising. Yep, I really have to make myself exercise or find someone to make me do it! I’ve never been into working with a personal trainer and doing high cardio as Im just not suited to that kind of exercise. I’m much more of a yoga-bunny as I love to get deep down and dirty with taming my mind, harnessing my power and stretching my spirituality. With my recent health issues, I hadn’t done any exercise in 6 months so at the beginning of this year it was fair to say I was extremely unfit and out of shape – something that I’m not used to and something I really don’t like. I don’t mean to brag but I’ve always been fairly slim and during the last two years of eating a predominantly raw diet, I was toned and happy with how I looked. Now? Not so much. Through having treatment, I’ve put on a stone (which most people I speak to say I look better for) but personally I’m happier being slightly more slender. I’ve never been one to follow “weight loss diets” so in order to reach my body goals, I am making a concerted effort to exercise regularly and increase my intake of raw including of course, juicing. So let me tell you about this new exercise that is rocking my world. Ok, so its not THAT new, but it’s new to me….kindof.
I decided to try Pilates Reformer. I have always been put off pilates after a really boring class a few year ago but I LOVE pilates reformer. It’s hard to describe how it works but essentially there are two parts to the machine; one that moves (known as the carriage) and one that doesn’t (I don’t know what that’s called-yes Im a bad student!). I love the stretches you can do by using the machine in so many different ways with my favourite part putting my feet in the handles and getting a stretch through the legs. If you haven’t tried it, I highly recommend it. I have really noticed a difference in my legs and stomach in particular and it won’t be long until I’m looking more like me again. Check out the video below where I train to get an insight into how it all works or how it works you!
Classes are great fun! If you live in the Cambridge area, definitely check out Activate Pilates who have loads of parking available and many different class times throughout the week.
Tell me in the comments below – what’s your favourite way to exercise?
