Friday Fitty: Natalie Pinkham

by Polly N on February 14, 2014

When I first met Natalie, or “Pinky” as she’s more affectionally known, I was first taken aback and immediately loved her loud fighting spirit. We were all gathered to play rounders in the park on a sunny Sunday afternoon and her enthusiasm for life instantly struck me. It’s fair to say that this vibrancy runs through every cell in her body and is often the spirit with which she uses for some of life’s harder challenges which she has uptaken through her TV & Presenting work. She is currently the F1 Pit-lane Reporter for Sky Sports and she has also just embarked on a fantastic & worthy mission to help build homes for orphans in Romania which you can find out more about here.
Meet Natalie…
Natalie Pinkham

What are 3 words you would use to describe yourself?

Hard working

What does wellness or wellbeing mean to you?

Feeling strong in body, mind and soul

What are your daily non-negotiables when it comes to your fitness and lifestyle regime?

Drinking lots of water, spending time outdoors and being in the company of loved ones

You travel a lot for work. What are your rules when it comes to living consciously on the road?

Staying hydrated on flights, running the F1 circuit in which ever country we are in, and skyping home as often as possible

What are your go-to meals and snacks when you are really busy?

Nuts and dried fruit

Juice Junkie or Smoothie Junkie? Which do you prefer and what’s your go-to favourite combo?

I love both. Please don’t make me choose! Ok, smoothies. Love a combo of berries and banana. Love ginger thrown in for good measure too.

If you could prepare a meal for anyone (dead or alive) who would it be and what would you make?

Eleanor Roosevelt if I was in a chatty mood, Ryan Gosling if I wasn’t. I would probably make them a stirfry – because it is about the only thing I am good at cooking.

What lesson(s) have you learned in the last few years that have improved or enriched your life in some way?

To try to not worry about what other people think so much. Control the controllables, no point losing energy on things outside of that.

What is your favourite quote or saying to live by?

Do one thing every day that scares you. Eleanor Roosevelt said that, and I think it is pretty cool. If you go out of your comfort zone once a day, you learn from it and grow from the experience, the next day it won’t scare you so much. It can be anything from jumping out of a plane to cooking a recipe that you haven’t tried before.

What are your core values that you like to live by?

My mum has always taught me never to underestimate the importance of kindness. It is the most crucial of human traits, from which many other qualities follow. My Dad has always taught me that everyone is as they are for a reason, so be patient and kind with others because you don’t know what battles they may be fighting.

Both my folks have also instilled a strong work ethic in my brother Sam and me – telling us from a very early age that there is no substitute for hard work.

What would you choose as your last meal on earth?

An enormous salad with nuts, grapes, pineapple, prawns, white cabbage – I love the combo of sweet and savoury. I would probably have a large side order of mac and cheese and a bottle of Sancerre to wash it all down.

Can you tell us one thing about yourself that not many people know…?

I sleepwalk every night, and it gets me into a lot of trouble.

Where’s your favourite place on earth?

A three mile long beach on the Atlantic coast in Praia Del Rey, Portugal, it’s also half a mile wide, and rarely has anyone on it. Just white sand, huge crashing waves and high cliffs at the top. It is about 2 miles from the medieval church I got married in.

Please leave us with your favourite quote.

‘Happiness is like a kiss, you have to share it to enjoy it’.

What are you obsessed with right now?

Coconut water – amazing rehydration!

Coconut oil – use for all cooking now, I love the taste

Chia seed – we chuck into everything, Owain got hooked on it after reading about it in ‘Born to Run’

And avocados – just delicious.. Funnily enough my Mum craved them when she was pregnant with me, which could explain my obsession.

What are your favourite ways to stay in shape?

I LOVE running, yoga, boxing, most adrenaline sports, and lying in the sun with my toes in the sand.

Thank you Natalie! xxx
